Indiana natives Zach Wright and Alyssa Vahala set the bar high when it comes to cool. Their first kiss occurred at their alma mater, Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, while stargazing after-hours at a park that they had snuck into. And after Zach proposed—at the base of a waterfall in Thailand with a placeholder ring because he was wary of globetrotting with the real thing—the two ramped up their vacation, calling it an “engagement-moon.” And then came their wedding at The Vineyards at Betty’s Creek in Sylva, chock-full of thoughtful detail upon detail. The pair exchanged written vows standing on the Oriental rug from their apartment living room—“It’s a rug we see and feel every day, and now it always brings me straight back to our ceremony,” Alyssa says—and they also planted a tree midservice with full audience participation.
